The Holy Grail of Jackets

If you've been reading this blog for a while, you might know that I have been looking for a decent military jacket for about four years. By decent, I mean the full on Sgt Pepper deal. I also mean affordable, and not enormous enough to fit several large men and their respective paunches into it. This has been more difficult than you might think. So many of the jackets I've come across over the years have been seventy three times too big, or wayyy too expensive, too 80's, the wrong colours ... but now, I have found it. IT. the jacket. I added the buttons myself, ripped off the hideous panthers adorning its sleeves, and VIOLA! Heaven.

ponca.
I really hated these panthers. They had to go.

newest and besterest jacket. ever.
YAY! Welcome to my squishy face of happiness.

This is a painting outfit. Though I did NOT wear the jacket while painting. You would not believe how much I love it ... I even tried to sleep in it. It was not comfortable.

Wearing:

• White Diesel glasses.
• Amazing amazing vintage band jacket, eBay.
• 1970's lace dress, Ebay. Inexpertly hacked off at the bottom and the sleeves by me.
• Dark grey leggings, Myer.
• Black 1970's boots, eBay.

So, I've found the holy grail.

Oh no! Now what will I do??

Double Take

These are two outfits I've worn in the last week. See, I still think about this blog even if my blogging is few and far between!! Even Pink rang me this week to ask what happened to my posts ... Oops.

belted

belted tent dress!

I went out for a stout and some Mexican food in this. Luckily the belt is mostly elastic because between the beer and the burrito my tummy did expandeth ...

Wearing:

• Cue dress, eBay.
• Cinch belt, opshopped.
• Black wool tights.
• 80's black oxfords + paint splotch.
• Motorcycle jacket.
• Black long-sleeved top.

trench!

in-trenched. oh god, my punning is awful.

I meant to go and see Inglourious Basterds in this outfit, however, the local mall had a massive blackout (which was amazing - being in a mall in the dark is much better than feeling like a lab rat under the usual fluorescent lighting) so I ended up going to a dodgy pub, where, with my beret and sweet little dress, I fit in like a sore thumb ...

Wearing:

• Yellow 'Pumpkin Patch' kids beret, opshopped.
• Yellow floral 60's tuxedo dress, ebay, many years ago.
• Turquoise trench coat, Tokito.
• Modern Vintage patent boots, eBay, secondhand.

A Room With A Boater Hat

boater hat

This little thing sitting with my vintage luggage is the boater hat I was harping on about in my last post on this blog. Have you forgotten about it? I wouldn't blame you -- it has been approximately a zillion years since my last post. The thing is, between Honours painting and thesis-writing, working and attempting some semblance of a social life, my time is pretty much all chewed up. I'm sorry. I'll try and be less of a naughty blogger in the future.

By the way, the school crest on the hat says "Honour Fredom". Yes, fredom, not freedom. How completely awesome is that?

Heading Down To Sydney Town

So I've finally gone and made the big move to Sydney!

Well i mean, I've moved in the sense that I'm living here (see: sleeping on couches) when in reality I'm really just looking for a room to share and somewhere tolerable to work. I was also over in sunny Alice Springs before that for 2 weeks or so, and in Newcastle and even Canberra and the snow for a month or so before that again! Hence the lack of blogging, I've been living out of a suitcase and haven't really been dressing too spectacularly. Or shopping a whole lot.

But regardless of that lets get onto the handful of outfits that I've managed to get pictures of in the meantime!

Right here is me in Newcastle, about to go out to a lovely pub for some delightfully alcoholic ginger beer and some fish.

I'm wearing shoes by Apostle, Levi Blacks, i forget what shirt I'm wearing but i get most of my button ups from myer. Some random bow tie, and a ladies Espirit bomber jacket (which I've worn more than just about anything else this winter)

This is my attempt at ponys least favourite clothes combination, one of my true loves, good old fashioned double denim! I always say that the most important thing to keep in mind with wearing 2 piece denim outfits is to keep the tones different, I'm being a bit daring here with the pants being regular acid wash and the jacket being REALLY SUPER HEAVY DUTY acid wash.

I tried to keep it a bit simple with the basic white shirt and blue and yellow trims. My only regret here being that I don't have a better pick of the shirts label, its a deadstock vintage "Dubbo Squash Club" muscle shirt from the 70s, and it is just amazing.

Shoes by Nike, Hoodie by American Aparell and everything else from your friendly neighbourhood op shop!

And lastly this is a pic of me today, It's a little boring, but I think the simplicity of it is nice. This is just my usual everyday street attire, simple matching colours topped off with a bit of a B Boy aesthetic. It also contains most of my favorite brands and things!

Classic low Nike Dunks, which are good for just about every occasion, white skinnies from good old American Apparel, Vintage 90s Yankees Bugs and Taz shirt! (how good is it! i fucking love anything like that!) Vintage 70s Adidas tracksuit top, and the icing on the cake! my brand new Supreme cap!

And this is me doing my best ever impression of Derek Zoolander when he gets told to act like a monkey during a shoot (and if you haven't seen Zoolander, well, what are you doing!). I couldn't find a clip of it on youtube that wasn't taken down! sorry friends!

All The Things I Currently Want

I Could Make An Outfit Out of All The Things I Covet

Guh. Drool. That pansy & skull print skirt is plaintive sighingly good.

Yes, I just invented a word. I don't care.

I FOUND a boater hat this afternoon, too. For thirty-five dollars. I decided against buying it, because god knows I shouldn't, but I am now kicking myself. So much so that I may go back and purchase it tomorrow.

Sometimes I really really wish that I didn't have to spend my money on grown-up stuff. Then I remember that most of it goes towards food, paint and canvases, which are some of my favourite things in the world. I am lucky. So, really, I should just shush and be grateful!

And go back and buy the hat.

The Greatest Shirt I Own

IMG_3232

I wore this today to go and write a seminar for my Honours program. I have been putting off writing it for weeks. It's done now - but it does make me wonder how in the hell I've managed to get through five years of tertiary education without learning how to become dedicated, organised ... and to not procrastinate.

Still, I made some great lilac-coloured cupcakes on the weekend. I only bake cakes as a work evasion strategy. It's probably not the best idea, seeing as the notion that "procrastination = cake" is now permanently embedded in my brain.

Aaaaaanyway. I'm wearing a shirt I bought on eBay a couple of weeks ago. It's a spectacular 80's Levis western shirt. It's also a children's shirt, which is why I can't button it up all the way! Haha. Oh to be flat-chested ...

Token unflattering dance picture. You love it.

Wearing:

• Levi's 80's plaid western shirt, eBay
• Pink vintage circle skirt, opshopped.
• 80's granny boots, eBay.
• Black wool tights.
•Aqua singlet (underneath), kids section of a department store, I think.
• Black rayon scarf, eBay.
• Neon pink thumbnail. I will get around to the rest of my nails later!

Art, Art, Art & A Pink Dress

Last night I went to an art show in someone's loungeroom. A sweet band with feathers in their hats played twinkly music in the kitchen and baked chocolate chip cookies in between sets. It was really lovely.

This is what I wore:

I've got to say, I've been out every night this week - mostly at exhibition openings - and I'm a bit tired! So tired in fact, that i'm going to actually relish a weekend in, writing my Honours seminar.

shirtwaist &motorcycle

Wearing:

• 1950's coral & white shirtwaist dress, eBay.
• Black vintage motorcycle jacket, Shag.
• Black wool tights over black opaque tights.
• Black patent buckle boots, Modern Vintage, Ebay.
• Pink vintage dress gloves, fingers cut off.
• Black slip (unseen)
• 'Just Jeans' cotton tank dress (unseen)

Yes, it was fucking icy cold outside. I don't get it. The trees outside are starting to blossom, the tulips buds on my little balcony are starting to redden. Spring is coming. So why isn't it warm yet??? Pout.
