Red, White and Blue

Well, my accomplishments for the past few days include eating carrot cake in bed, sitting in the rain despite being in possession of A Lingering Headcold, killing my favourite pyjama pants in cold blood and listening to Cat Power albums back-to-back while making tiaras from pink felt. My mid year Honours review came and went, in a haze of cold'n'flu tablets, and that's why my blog posts have been seriously lacking. Lucky for me Pink is picking up the slack lately!

Oh yeah -- the two of us were featured in a Canberra Times article last week, alongside the gorgeous Nina Ribena, Go Fug Yourself and Bagaholic Boy. Thanks, Claire, for saying all those lovely things!

Today's outfit is not spectacular - I've lost a bit of interest in getting dressed lately, as a result of being sick and the ever-dropping temperature. But I'm trying - I am out of my pyjamas, despite a strong urge to wear them everywhere.

This is what I'm wearing today, in search of bird sanctuaries and beer.

red, white, blue

Wearing:
• Blue scarf tied in a bow, a gift from the boy made of glitter.
• Red and white 'Lanz Original' dress, dated 1962.
• Blue 'we love colors' stockings.
• Tatty red patent flats.
• 1950's navy jacket, from a skirt suit, eBayed for $5.00.
• Peach crinoline (unseen), eBay.

polka dots & silliness
Being silly. In front of a camera. How out of character.

Say Hello to Mr Red an Yellow

The other day i was going through some old boxes of stuff and i came across this awesometastic old Azumanga Daioh Pin from my younger years, it was this cute weid little thing of the character Chiyo's father (theres a closeup of it below, bizarre to be sure) and this outfit was basically all based around that, so red an yellow were the colours of the day and with the weather here at my parents place being so super-fantabulastic (winter my ass) i could wear pretty much whatever i wanted.

So im wearing Alife Public Outrage's on my feet, those opshopped Toby Lee pants that are so 50s/80s, some random white shirt, a red scottish wollen jumper, opshopped, and finally a Germany Addidas cardigan, eBayed at Ponys wishes.

i'll leave you with a clip of Chiyodad... "if im not a cat... WHAT AM I?" genius

Looks Like Someones Been Listenin to Those ol' Records Again...

So for quite a while now, its been my goal to try an emulate the look of the brilliant 80s popsters Hall & Oats, and this is another attempt, the 80s staples are all there, tight white jeans (american apparel), tucked in cowboy shirt (Vintage), unbuttoned a bit too much, leather jacket (Stolen from my sister) and those lost boy favs, Rayban Clubmasters...

Now if i could only write some super catchy pop tunes...

Hey There, Winter!

hello winter!

See me wavin'? This is how I say hi to winter. Or, more accurately, how I look like a chump in front of my camera.

Still, it's an opportunity to show you my well-worn, favourite coat, bought on eBay when I was seventeen or eighteen. It's quilted on the inside, is super warm, and makes me feel like a cross between Janis Joplin and Santa Claus. Which is really not a bad place to be:

winter - flashing me polka-dots
Flashing my polka-dots. Ooh la la!

Wearing:

• Best coat ever. 1960's velvet and faux-fur.
• Spotty flocked dress, 1960's, from a vintage fair.
• Black supermarket tights.
• Quilted ballet flats. Because they're painful and I'm a masochist.

Also, because I want to be sappy and embarrassing like someone's drunk Great-Aunt Mildred--

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PINK!!!!

Never let it be said that I don't broadcast your descent into old age on the internets :P

Blonde Venus

While freezing rainy weather is my very very favourite weather, the things I don't like about it include:

• Doing my laundry just before it starts to rain, so I have to hang everything to dry in my house.
• Driving without my glasses when it's getting dark at 5 pm.
• Bleaching my hair in a tiny singlet top in a cold lil bathroom.

I do like, however:

• Making these and this concurrently and dancing around to awesome playlists (who knew the Andrews Sisters and Ugly Duckling went together so well?)
• Eating in my car with the boy while it rains outside.
• Umbrellas!

That pretty much sums up the last few days.

So today, after a fresh coat of bleach, I went to see the Soft Sculpture exhibition and wander around the National Portrait Gallery. I really loved finally seeing Hesse's "Contingent" in the flesh, and I found Melinda Harper's work. I love her to death.

I wore this:

blonde-venus

Wearing:
• Black vintage riding jacket, opshopped for $4
• My grandmother's sunburst rhinestone brooch.
• 1950's pink rosette dress.
• Lace leggings, a present from my mother.
• Black woven jazz flats, 1980s, eBay.

I also took a photograph of this the other night, in case you ever wondered what I wear when I'm hanging around my house, baking/mending/trying to dance like Ian Curtis.

plaid-rosie-the-riveter

Wearing:
• Blue geometric scarf, tied in a do-rag.
• Plaid pyjama shirt.
• Blue 1970's athletic shorts, opshopped for $2.50.
• Thick woolen knee-high bedsocks.

Finally, I am selling this 1960's pink chiffon dress on eBay in a continuation of my emotionally stunted, painful attempts to downsize my wardrobe:

Lace'n'Jersey

Just the one, all-too-serious-looking photograph today. I desperately need to upgrade my flickr account, so I'm limiting the amount of photographs I upload right now (the other photo was me doing some kind of squishy-faced bunny ears thing, just to spoil it for you!)

I added a grey woolen coat and a black, diamante-studded beret to this outfit, so I wouldn't freeze on my way to buy bleach, Issue 1 of LOVE magazine, and an awesome, gigantic tea cup. I suck at not buying things on a whim.

lace'n'jersey

Wearing:
• 50's or 60's lace dress, last seen here. From a vintage fair in Sydney last year.
• Black wool jersey jacket with white collar, 1950's. eBay.
• Fuchsia stockings, welovecolors.com
• Fuchsia-bordered silk scarf, a gift from my mother.
• Black woven 1980's jazz flats, eBay.
• Black patent skinny belt.
• 1950's lace crinoline.

Invasive Exotics

While my brain is still not functioning on those higher levels, thanks to the end of semester (and whether it's functioning on lower levels is definitely debatable ...) I thought I'd post some beautiful images from Gail Sorronda's SS 09/10 collection, "Invasive Exotics".

Sinister, mysterious, with a smattering of burlesque ... I'd gladly give a limb for any one of her pieces.

You can find the rest at her website.

The Overview

Not so much action on the ol blog recently, i got myself a second job and haven't had much spare time, but i have been dressing and shopping, and even occasionally photographing my outfits.

so here's a few highlights from the past few weeks, its been colder which is great for me, i've been keeping it preppy, with V-neck sweaters and dress shoes and ties and thin belts, onto some outfits!

So this is sorta my "dad on holidays in an 80's movie set in the 50's" outfit, that name pretty much sais it all, im wearing van authentics, op shopped pants by toby lee, vintage shirt by paramount, that fantastic lacoste pullover and some random elcheapo trillby thing i found in my sisters room.

I'm not really sure what my point of fashion was with this outfit, maybe it was the ralph loren shirt and that sexy thin belt, i cant really say, it just sorta came together really easily all on its own.

so im wearing shoes by apostle from Myer, American aparell jeans, that sexy opshopped belt, Shirt by Ralph Loren, which is just my favourite thing at the moment, it reminds me alot of these new plaids by AA, Jumper of the deliciously soft Scottish variety, ophopped, no tag, and a short brimmed trillby by my uncles brand hatology.

little detail of the the shirt minus the jumpre below too.

This final out fit, i'm just getting back to my roots, sorta beastie boyish, 80s B-Boy, yada yada.

I'm wearin Adidas Pros, crown cords by Krew, shirt by lacoste, Puma jacket and my favourite part, Kangol Cap from that Stereo collection a few years ago bought from the Strand Hatters.
